Lisa Nichols, Ph.D.

Dr. Nichols has worked in the field of child maltreatment for more than twenty years. Her work as a licensed counselor (LPC-S) in Texas and Colorado has included private practice, the non-profit sector, and Children’s Advocacy Centers throughout Texas. Over the years she counseled hundreds of children who experienced child sexual abuse and is a LGBTQ+ ally. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Psychology from Texas Christian University and Houston Christian University, respectively. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology/Criminology from Texas Woman’s University and is an Assistant Professor in Criminology, Criminal Justice at the University of Northern Colorado.
Dr. Nichols’ research is focused on the impact of child maltreatment, victim studies, and law enforcement mental health. She is a subject matter expert on child abuse and has testified in civil and criminal cases as an expert witness. Her research has been published in academic journals and she is a nationwide presenter on topics of child maltreatment and police officer mental health. She is also the founder of a non-profit organization she started in memory of her mother. The CAC mission, its employees and clients have been important to Dr. Nichols for more than twenty years, and she is honored to serve the Denver CAC in this way.
